I went back to the house where I learned to act, to understand what of it is still in me.

A personal documentary, written and directed by me.

Produced by Hooked Originals
2006

I walked into an old Damascene house to learn acting at Teatro, with May Skaf. Acting until 2008, directing until 2009.

2026

I went back. Not as an acting student this time. With a camera.

Do we ever really go back to the places we left? Or do we carry them with us all along?

TRAILER · 2:22

Two minutes inside the house.

The official trailer. In Arabic, with English subtitles. Play it with sound.

The film is built like an acting class.

An entrance, four exercises, and an ending. The way we used to train at Teatro. Each exercise opens a door into memory.

  1. 00 · THE RETURN

    The return

I went back to Damascus, to the house where it all started. Same door. Not the same me.

  2. 01 · BODY WARM-UP

    The body remembers

Before words, the body. The way you walk, stand, breathe. Some memories don't come back as images. They come back as movement.

  3. 02 · VOICE WARM-UP

    The voices that stayed

The old voices are gone, and still here. It's sound that opens memory, not the image.

  4. 03 · FOCUS

    Focus

We came back to the same place. None of us came back the same person.

  5. 04 · ACTING CLASS

    Acting class

Saif Abu Asaad leads the class again. The house doesn't bring back the past. It makes room for new life.

  6. 05 · WHAT REMAINS

    What remains?

Some places we never leave, even after we walk out.

The house is a character too.

  • The doorA crossing between two times.
  • The courtyardWhere memory gathers.
  • The mirrorsBetween image and identity.
  • The lightPart of the film's inner time.

And May Skaf, present in what she left in each of us.The film isn't her biography. But without her, there would be no Teatro.
